Relax

Don’t get hung up on what’s “normal” for children your child’s age.

School Testing
All public school children in Virginia undergo achievement testing.  Be an advocate for your child and their educational needs.  Learn how testing helps your child receive a better education.  For example, public schools students in Virginia take the Stanford 10 in grades four, six and eight.

The Stanford Achievement Test series assesses what students know and are able to do at that specific moment in time.  Schools use the data to evaluate progress toward meeting the challenges of the No Child Left Behind Act and other standards and expectations.  Through this testing, teachers can identify and assist at risk children.  Parents will understand what their children know and can do and how they can help.

Public School Accreditation
In Virginia, public school accreditation ratings reflect student achievement on Standard of Learning assessments and the other statewide tests in English, history/social science, mathematics and science.  Ratings are based on the achievement of students on tests taken during the previous academic year. They may also reflect a three-year average of achievement.
