When selecting a school for your child, a school visit is an invaluable part of the process. By asking the right questions and doing your own observations, you will discover whether or not it’s the right place for your child.
Attend the school’s open house; but, also schedule an individual visit. You will gain insights into the school’s strengths, challenges and approaches toward teaching and learning.
Take a serious look around and discover:
- Are the classrooms cheery and appropriate for the grade level?
- Are the teachers enthusiastic and knowledgeable?
- Do the teachers ask questions that stimulate students and keep them engaged?
- Is the administration confident and interested in interacting with students, teachers and parents?
- How do students behave as they move from class to class or play outside?
- How well are the facilities maintained? Are bathrooms clean and well supplied, and do the grounds look safe and inviting?
