Each year, Virginia Beach Public Utilities sponsors a calendar contest for students in kindergarten through 5th grade who live or attend school in Virginia Beach. The calendar theme is How I Use Water Wisely in and around My Home.

Show us what you do!

We want to see what your children do to conserve water, keep drainage pipes fat-free, or prevent backflow. Does your family turn off the water when brushing your teeth? Do you wash only full loads of clothes and dishes? Do you check for leaks and repair them promptly? When you wash your car, do you use a hose nozzle that doesn’t leak? Do you pour fats, oils, and grease into a grease can, instead of pouring it down the drain? Do you place the hose on the ground, and not in the bucket, when washing your car to prevent backflow? Encourage your children to create artwork that demonstrates what you do!

Entries will be judged on best expression of theme, picture design, creativity, and artistic skill. The selected entries will be featured in the 2011 Water Awareness Calendar. The artists of entries selected for full-page display in the calendar will be presented a $50 savings bond and a “Wayne Drop” plush toy by the Mayor of Virginia Beach at an official awards ceremony. The artists of all entries selected as Honorable Mentions will receive a signed certificate and a “Wayne Drop” plush toy.
