Before long, area youngsters will be gathering their backpacks and heading off to the school bus. Do you have a child who will be starting kindergarten next year? Or maybe your child is switching from home to public school? Then, you have a list of things you need to do before school starts. You have to make sure they are registered for school, that they get a school physical, and that their immunizations are up-to-date.

Fortunately, the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health can help. The health department offers FREE school immunizations to ALL children. Immunizations are done by appointment and at walk-in clinics. If your rising kindergartener is already 4 years old, he or she can get his kindergarten shots now. Avoid long lines and wait times. There’s no need to wait until the new school year.

Additionally, the health department provides a limited number of school physicals.  Appointments are reserved for children who do not have health insurance and fees are based on the family’s household income.

Call (757) 518-2700 for more information aboutimmunization clinic hours or to make an appointment. The Virginia Beach Health Department is located at 4452 Corporation Lane, near Pembroke Mall.
