Four-Month-Old Immunizations Make sure your child receives the following vaccinations: DTAP, IPV (polio), Hib, Rotavirus, and Hepatitis B. If your child wasn’t vaccinated against the Hepatitis B virus as a newborn, he or she should receive that vaccination now.
- The DTAP vaccine protects your child from respiratory disease (whooping cough) caused by bacteria which can lead to airway obstruction, coma and death if not treated.
- The IPV vaccine protects your child from polio, a viral disease that can affect the nervous system causing paralysis, permanent disability or even death.
- The Hib vaccine protects your child from a severe bacterial infection that can lead to meningitis, death and permanent brain damage.
- The PCV7 vaccine protects your child from pneumococcal disease which causes ear and lung infections, brain damage, hearing loss, learning disabilities and death.
- The Rotavirus vaccine protects your child from a virus that causes severe diarrhea, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and death.
- The Hepatitis B vaccine protects your child from liver cancer or cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) caused by the Hepatitis B virus.
